I was least impressed with the entertainment on Norwegian Viva, although Beetlejuice was fantastic. Finally, Carnival Jubilee’s ship design is equally as family-focused as Icon of the Seas. Compared to Icon of the Seas, there is certainly less hype and innovation. However, Carnival Jubilee is still designed to be modern and stylish, especially for Carnival Cruise Line.

There are beautiful spaces onboard for adults as well, including many of the bars and lounges. However, there is plenty of emphasis on fun for kids intertwined with the ship's design. Considering this was a brand-new ship class, Icon of the Sea’s design was heavily hyped. Royal Caribbean built its newest class to feature the best of the cruise line’s design. In my opinion, Icon of the Seas has a delicate balance of its colorful, carnival-style design while finding space for modern, elegant touches. Those who are looking for a smaller, more intimate cruise ship will want to book Norwegian Viva or Celebrity Ascent.

We already mentioned that Norwegian has done away with the traditional dining setups you’ll see on other cruise lines. It also has some of the newest ships among North American carriers, which means those looking for a variety of activities and a casual setup will want to consider Norwegian. Unlike other cruise lines, Norwegian has done away with assigned meal times and tables for guests.

Originally a Norwegian word describing a narrow inlet formed within a glacial valley, the term "fjord" has since gone international. Benefits range from priority check-in and private departure lounges to exclusive events and balcony discounts. Plus, the Crown and Anchor Society offers milestone benefits, giving members additional perks when they reach 140, 210, 280, and 350 cruise points.
On select Royal Caribbean cruise ships, there is a nursery for 6 to 36 month old children. Royal Caribbean is one of the only cruise lines that offers a nursery for young children. Latitudes Rewards is NCL’s loyalty program, where guests earn points for every night they sail. The more points you accumulate, the higher your tier level and the more benefits you receive.

With 3,099 passengers at maximum capacity, this modern cruise ship has a little bit of something for everyone’s family. The massive cruise ship can hold 7,600 guests at maximum capacity and nearly 10,000 people in total when counting the crew members. She features eight different, distinct neighborhoods onboard with unique experiences for its many guests to enjoy. I was lucky enough to sail on all four of these incredible new cruise ships within the last few months. It was fascinating to see how these state-of-the-art cruise ships were similar, yet so different. Both Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean have many similarities, but they also have some key differences as well.
Here are some fun European cities to visit on your next European cruise — plus tips to make it a memorable, stress-free experience. Plan the perfect trip on your travel getaway to visit the best places in Europe. Immerse yourself in the local culture by admiring the colorful wooden houses and medieval ruins and indulging in the fresh regional cuisine.
NCL does a great job at having fun activities planned throughout the cruise, so there is always something going on. Norwegian Cruise Line has a youth program for kids between the ages of 3 to 17. The kid’s club is a great place where you can leave your children in a safe and fun environment. Since Royal Caribbean has some incredible big ships, there are multiple entertainment venues onboard.
The popular Grunerlokka neighborhood is the perfect place to grab a bite. For a taste of down-home Norway, seek out local cod, hake or herring served with local garnishes like pea puree and pickled red onions. With cruises to Oslo, you can head to an Indian spot for samosas and fried king prawns — the local bounty shows up in the international eats, too.
Royal Caribbean offers everything from inside cabins with virtual balconies to two-story loft suites. Celebrity Ascent leans heavily into the innovation side compared to onboard thrills. Since the ship was designed for a more upscale, adult experience, Celebrity Ascent doesn’t have the kid-friendly thrills. Similarly, Celebrity Ascent showcases a strong assortment of production shows and headliner entertainment across the board.
Royal Caribbean is famous for its family-friendly offerings, providing a wealth of activities that cater to children of all ages. Their Adventure Ocean program, for instance, is divided into several age groups to ensure kids are engaged in age-appropriate activities. There are also teen-only hangout spots and a nursery service for infants and toddlers.
Throughout the cruise, there are organized activities and themed parties and taking place in the kid’s club. This is a great place to leave your children while you relax by the pool or go to a show in the evening time. Norwegian also has O’Sheehans and The Local, which are pub style restaurants that are open 24/7. Those who cruise with Norwegian, love these restaurants because the food is amazing and it’s open all the time. The Free at Sea promotion is one of the best benefits when cruising with Norwegian. This perks program, which has a free beverage package as an option, is a big reasons why people love cruising with Norwegian.
Plus, the benefits that work for the rest of the cruise left me disappointed. However, I feel it important to re-visit certain programs, like The Key, because lots of things change with Royal Caribbean. Plus, I thought perhaps it might be a better purchase in Europe than the Caribbean. With any cruise I take, I like to reflect on the decisions I made for how I could improve the experience going forward. I certainly hope this is not my last cruise to Norway, so the next time I head there, I can apply these lessons. Haraldsgata is the popular pedestrian street in Haugesund where you can find the main tourist information center and a variety of shops.
Most cruise lines will have one or two formal nights throughout the cruise. However on NCL, there are no formal nights, so you don’t have to worry about bringing your formal clothing. A big reasons why passengers love cruising with Norwegian is because of their relaxed cruise line dress codes. There are slot machines, blackjack tables, poker tables and even a high roller room.
Plus, when we came to Seven Sisters waterfall, the ship spun around to ensure everyone got a view. If you're visiting a city, there's lots of choices, but some ports are quite small towns and don't have a ton of variety. Royal Caribbean offers a boat tour, in which you sail through the Åkrafjord and right up to Langfoss waterfall.
